Whenever I fly into LAX I think about Peter Alexander’s incredible paintings that capture this very particular view of our landscape. Made in the late eighties/early ninties they perfectly describe that feeling of flight, the gridded-sprawl of twinkling lights, the stardust and the smog.
This one’s called Lawndale and was painted in 1988:
